A Vermont microbrewery, Magic Hat brews dozens of fine beers; one of their most popular is the #9 - Not Quite Pale Ale, a fruit beer/English pale ale brewed with English Ale yeast, pale & crystal malts, and Cascade and Apollo hops. Magic Hat describes #9 as "a beer cloaked in secrecy" (think, love potion?), and with 5.1% ABV and 20 IBUs, it's a highly drinkable potion. #9 pours out a deep gold with a short white head that sticks around awhile. This ale's aroma is of apricots, coconuts and peaches, and the taste follows the nose, with more coconuts, peaches and mangos; the sweetness is well balanced by the Cascade hops, and the finish ends on a slightly bitter note. In your mouth, #9 is friendly and smooth, with moderate carbonation. #9 - Not Quite Pale Ale is available year round in bottles and on tap, and it's a beer that pairs well with spicy and hot foods.
