Lagunitas Imperial Stout is the brewery's take on a Russian Imperial Stout; Lagunitas website describes it as " Big, black, bourgeois, Bolshoy, belligerent, buxom, and scary - this is our version of the chaotic end of an era in a bottle." At 9.90%, this is a big beer; it pours out a very deep black with a tall brown head that retains well and recedes into pretty lacing. The aroma of Lagunitas Imperial Stout is nutty dark roasted malts over chocolate and smoke. The taste is solidly stout: dark roasted semi-sweet malts, chocolate, coffee, and a slight bit of alcohol at the finish. The body is on the lighter side of stout, with moderate carbonation. Look for Lagunitas Imperial Stout in summer time, in bottles, casks, and on-tap. Try it in a pint glass, tumbler, or snifter, at 50-55F. Russian Imperial Stouts make great dessert beers; pair this one with chocolate or cake.
