Harviestoun Ola Dubh (which means, 'Black Oil'), is a joint brew Harviestoun Brewery and Highland Park. Ola Dubh is an 8% ABV Old Ale that's aged in in malt whisky casks from a named distillery. It's a limited edition brew, released in traceable casks and numbered bottles (12, 16, and 30 are the first batches). Ola Dubh pours out a dark brown-black with a thin khaki head that laces as it settles. Its nose is of peat, wood, burnt coffee, Scotch, and burning campfires-very inviting. The taste opens with dark cocoa, roasted malts, and black coffee, rolling into Scotch, grains, earth, and a hint of vanilla. The finish is woody and charred, and the body of his old ale is medium, with mild carbonation. Available on a rotating schedule, look for Ola Dubh in bottles and casks, and try it in a pint glass, snifter, or oversized wine glass at 50-55F.
