Green Flash Brewing's Hop Head Red is hopped with Columbus, Nugget and Amarillo hops, and flavored with caramel malts to create a unique, red IPA. This 7.0% ABV and 70 IBUs IPA has won various awards, including the gold medal at the 2011 World Beer Cup. Hop Head Red pours out a thick ruby color with a 2 finger ivory head that laces well. The nose of this American Amber/Red Ale is of caramel malts, tropical fruit, with some floral hops (it's dry hopped with Amarillo hops towards this end). The taste is of sweet caramel, bready malts, lots of bitter hops balancing this sweetness, and a lingering hop finish with hints of tropical fruit. The mouth feel is thick, creamy, and well carbonated. We like to drink Green Flash Hop Head Red from a pint glass, mug, or stein, at around 40-45 degrees F. This brew pairs well with sharp cheeses, beef, poultry or fish.
