Brewed in honor of the 1000th batch at our original Clybourn brewpub. A liquid as dark and dense as a black hole with thick foam the color of a bourbon barrel. The nose is an intense mix of charred oak, chocolate, vanilla, caramel and smoke. One sip has more flavor than your average case of beer. Our Description:
To celebrate its 1000th batch of beer, Goose Island Beer Company created the Bourbon County Stout, which has become one of the brewery's best sellers. An American Double/Imperial Stout, the alcohol content varies by batch, but the 2013 batch checks in at 14.5%, with 60 IBUs. This stout is aged in bourbon barrels, which impart a subtle oak and vanilla profile. Bourbon County Stout pours out midnight black, with a short dark brown head that leaves lacing behind. Its nose opens with bourbon, vanilla, charred oak, caramel and smoke, and its taste follows suit. You'll also taste dark cherries and slight booze at the finish; for a thick beer, this one is easy to sip. The mouthfeel is thick and the carbonation is mild. Try Bourbon County Stout in a pint glass, snifter, or oversized wine glass at 50-55 degrees F. Imperial Stouts pair with hearty meals; enjoy a pint of Bourbon County Stout with smoked or grilled meat, game, or buttery cheeses.
