Brewed with ten varieties of malted barley, Founders' Imperial Stout (technically, a Russian Imperial Stout), is smooth, complex, and rich of body. With an ABV of 10.5% and an IBU rating of 90, this beer is not for the faint of heart. Best served at cellar temperature, Founders' Imperial Stout is a grand, warming winter drink, available in January. Dark even for a stout, Founders' Imperial Stout pours out jet black and opaque. There's not much of a head, or lacing on the glass, but this beer has some strong alcohol legs underneath it. The aroma is chocolate, brown sugar, some cinnamon and smokiness, with more sweet creamy malts than hoppiness in the nose. The flavor is complex, with dark chocolate and roasted malt tones, followed by bitterness classic to stouts, and a balanced, hoppy finish with some alcohol and bitter tones. Enjoy this Russian Imperial Stout in a snifter or tulip glass.
