First released in February, 2013, Firestone Walker's Sucaba is an English Barleywine with a 12.5% ABV and 42 IBUs. This is a big beer, with bourbon and oak flavors, blended with soft chocolate malt undertones. Best sipped from a snifter, this ale pours out a deep amber, with a head that fades into a ring around your glass. Sucaba's aroma is sweet, with tones of toffee, vanilla, tobacco, coconut, dark chocolate and dark cherry. Caramel malts and bourbon are the first tastes on the palate, followed by vanilla, cinnamon, more oak, a little alcohol and a little heat (from some woodiness and the barrel it percolated in); expect some lovely bourbon at the finish. There's low to medium carbonation throughout the beer, and storing this ale for several years at or below 40F will age it nicely. Enjoying this beer with dark chocolate, or hearty bread and cheese is a good idea.
