Bear Republic's Racer 5 is an American India Pale Ale that's easy on the tongue. At 7% ABV and 70 IBUs, this pale ale pours out a golden amber with a slight hint of orange, with a bit of haziness. The head is impressive, a heavy and creamy inch and half high with good retention and lacing on the glass. The nose of Race 5 is of heavy hops, a blend of citrus, pine, and floral hops (this hoppy American IPA is brewed with American pale and crystal malts, and heavily hopped with Chinook, Cascade, Columbus and Centennial). The flavors follow the aroma, with citric, pine and floral hops opening to bread and grain malts. This is a complex IPA, with a medium-heavy body and light, perky carbonation. The finish is of heavy hops and a pleasant bitterness. Available year round in bottles and kegs, Racer 5 sips well from a tall glass.
