Alesmith's India Pale Ale is a light ale, at 7.25 alcohol by volume and with a deep gold, light amber color. Best sipped from a pint glass, mug, or stein, Alesmith's IPA pours out with a tall off-white head that sticks around, and a nose that offers rich malt aromas, grassy and bitter hops, and some pleasant sweetness (grapefruit, pine scents). The taste follows the nose, with sweet malts upfront, caramel and candy, opening into smooth bready malts, then earthy hops, and shades of tropical and citrus fruits, with more pine and resin hints. The finish is strong and sweet, with a velvet smooth mouthfeel and well balanced carbonation. This beer has won the Silver medal at the California State Fair and the World Beer Championships, the People's Choice two consecutive years at The San Diego Real Ale Festival, and the Bronze at the Great American Beer Festival in 2005.
