Mikkeller Black is an American Double/Imperial Stout that's comes from De Proefbrouwerij in Denmark. A huge beer, it's 17.50% alcohol by volume and available on a rotating schedule in bottles and on-tap. Brewed with malt, roasted barley, dark cassonade, ale yeast and champagne yeast, Mikkeller Black pous out an opaque jet black with a tall dark mocha head that slowly reduces to a thick film, leaving good lacing behind. The nose offers aromas of cognac over some light aromas of roasted malts and hints of chocolate and alcohol. Mikkeller Black tastes like it smells, with roasted malts upfront opening to dark chocolate and tobacco, cognac and alcohol. This DIPA is full bodied with ample carbonation and a heavy alcohol warmth at the finish. Mikkeller Black is a good match for buttery cheeses, chocolate, beef, game, and grilled or smoked meats. Sip it from a pint glass, snifter, or oversized wine glass at 50-55°F.
