Weyerbacher Heresy is a Russian Imperial Stout from Weyerbacher Brewing Company in Pennsylvania. The brewery ages this ale in oak barrels once used for making fine Kentucky bourbon. This 8% ABV stout ale pours out a deep midnight black with a brown head that froths and gently settles after a while. Weyerbacher Heresy's nose is of rich dark fruits, roasted malts, vanilla, dark chocolate and coffee. The taste is strong, with roasted malts, wood, dark fruits, and booze at the back. The mouthfeel is smooth and sticky, the carbonation is mild. Weyerbacher Heresy is an excellent pair for chocolate and desserts, and it sips quite well from a pint glass, nonic, tumbler, or stein at 50-55 degrees F. Look for Weyerbacher Heresy on a rotating schedule in bottles, casks, growlers, and on-tap. This ale is also a good choice for cellaring and aging at 45-50 degrees F, for a long time.
