Weyerbacher Brewing Company is located in Pennsylvania, and they make a lot of fine craft ales. Blithering Idiot is their English Barleywine, and it's a healthy 11.10% ABV. Available in winter in bottles and on-tap, Blithering Idiot pours out a solid, dark brown, with copper highlights and a tall beige head that retains well and laces as it recedes. Brewed in the European tradition, this beer is on malty side, and smells of sweet alcohol, cherries, and figs. The taste is of European malts, wild cherries, light orange and figs, and alcohol towards the back. On the tongue, Blithering Idiot is light and mildly carbonated with a dry finish. Try pairing this barelywine with sharp or pungent cheeses, or sip it after dinner. Serve Weyerbacher Blithering Idiot in a pint glass, snifter, or oversized wine glass at 50-55°F. The higher alcohol content makes this a good beer to stash in your cellar and age for a few seasons, at 45-50°F.
