Uerige Alt is brewed by Uerige Obergarige Hausbrauerei in Dusseldorf, Germany (hausbraerei means brewhouse, pretty much). It's an Altbier (kind of a rare style), and it's 4.70% ABV and available year-round in bottles, casks, growlers, and on-tap. Alt is a warm copper brown with a tall brown head that sinks slowly, lacing all the way. Uerige Alt smells complex, offering caramel, noble hops, brown sugar, rye bread, apples, hay, and wood. The taste of this Albier is initially bitter, opening to strong hops, rye bread, caramel malt, brown sugar, dried flowers, all leading up to a dry herbal finish. This is a medium bodied beer with with a bitter floral aftertaste, and mild sort of carbonation. We recommend pairing Uerige Alt with German cuisine, earthy cheeses, smoked meat, game, or grilled meat dishes. The proper glass for this Altbier is a stange, try it at 45-50 degrees F.
