Troegs Javahead Stout is a Stout Ale from Troegs Brewing Company in Hersey, PA, and it used to be called Scratch 15, an oatmeal stout. This brew is made with a blend of roasted espresso and Kenyan coffee beans, which, along with whole leaf hops, act as a French press for the hot wort, as it passes through the hopback vessel. Troegs Javahead Stout pours out a dark brown, almost black, with a short tan head that retains well and laces gently. The nose of this stout offers bitter coffee beans, some lactose notes, and hearty oats. The taste is of cold coffee, oatmeal and a light lactose quality, balanced with mild malt sweetness, and ending on a dry espresso note. The body is full and gently carbonated. We recommend sipping Troegs Javahead Stout from an English pint, shaker, or snifter. Pair this stout with chocolate, or try it as a dessert beer (in lieu of a shot of espresso after dinner).
