2012 Vintage - Southern Tier Mokah Imperial Stout is a big beer from the New York brewery; Southern Tier combined two other Imperial Stout recipes, Jahva and Choklat, to make this 11.20% ale. Cocoa beans are added to its mash; the beer pours out coffee colored with a cappuccino head which settles quickly. Its nose offers dark chocolate aromas with background notes of mild coffee and floral citrus hops, with soil and leather undertones. This ale tastes of bittersweet chocolate, black roasted coffee, grainy malts, caramel, cocoa, and a sweet, roasted finish. Southern Tier Mokah Imperial Stout has a full body, with soft and prickly carbonation. Look for Southern Tier Mokah on a rotating schedule in bottles, growlers, and on-tap. Try it in a pint glass, snifter, or oversized wine glass at 50-55 degrees F. Mokah is a good candidate to store in a cellar age at 45-50 degrees F.
