Nogne O Sunturnbrew is an American Barleywine that's a whopping 11.00% ABV and brewed annually at solstice by the Norwegian brewery. Look for Sunturnbrew in bottles and on-tap in the winter. With 50 IBU, it's an approachable barleywine; it pours out a deep brown with hints of cherry and a short tan head that settles quickly. The smell is of smoked malts, caramel, and leather. Nogne O Sunturnbrew tastes of smoked malts, plum, raisins and figs, and some alcohol, leading to a dry, spicy finish. The mouthfeel is moderately thick and solid, with light carbonation. We like to sip Nogne O Sunturnbrew from a pint glass, tumbler, or snifter at 50-55 degrees F. Sunturnbrew can be stashed in the cellar to age for a few seasons, and it pairs nicely with sharp and pungent cheeses, or with various desserts. Barleywines are not the easiest ale style to find; Sunturnbrew is a great starter barleywine.
